What is LGBT / JAX?

LGBT / JAX is a community information hub and directory to, for and about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Jacksonville Florida and the surrounding communities.

Other cities have these directories but they charge for basic listings and they charge non-profits to list. Why do you give free basic listings to businesses and free upgrades to 501(c) charities?

We decided to make our directory more accessible by giving LGBT & LGBT welcoming 501(c) charities free listings. We also wanted to make sure that new businesses, starting out on a shoestring budget, had the opportunity to get at least a basic listing until they were in a position to upgrade.

If this is for community information why do you charge for upgrades and ads?

The short answer is that just like you we have to pay our bills. This website has taken a tremendous amount of time to create and launch. It also takes a lot of time to maintain, to insure that listings are up to date and that the SPOTLIGHT stories get written and the news items are current. This is a full work week, every week, for our webmaster.

Why do you charge so much less than other city directories?

We did the research and compared the prices in other cities. Then we crunched the numbers to determine our costs. We set our prices to cover our time and expenses.

Do I have to have a website to get listed?

No.You do need either a website or a social media (such as Facebook) page for your business. It gives us something to link to and is a way for people in the community to learn more about your business, service or organization.   ...but if you would like a website but aren't sure where to start contact our webmaster. She did a great job for us. She could do a great job for you.

I don't have any social media pages for my business can I still get a listing?

No but if you don't have a social media page you should have a website. See the answer directly above this one.

I'm upgrading and buying an ad. How do you insure that my credit card information is secure?

We use PayPal Secure Invoicing & Payments because of their secure server and outstanding track record. When you click the pay button you are taken directly to the secure PayPal site. After PayPal confirms your payment you will be taken to the Upgrade Form page on our site.

I want to advertise but I don't have a banner ad. Can you make one for me?

Absolutely! We charge a one-time fee of $75 to create your ad. Once created though, you own it so you can also use it to advertise on other sites if you like.

Why isn't my business in this directory?

We didn't know about you! Click here to get a basic listing. For a full, upgraded listing click here. For more information about basic and upgraded listings click here.

Why isn't my favorite LGBT friendly business in the directory?

Same as above - Click here to suggest a listing.

Do I have to be the owner of a business to suggest it for inclusion in the directory?

No. Anyone can suggest a listing

Will you put a notice about our fundraiser on your website?

Yes, we will put your event in the LGBT/JAX Regional Community Calendar. News and event announcements are published to the site (and our news feed and social media outlets) space permitting. Items must be relevant to the Jacksonville area LGBT community. Press/News Releases should be emailed to press@lgbtjax.org.

How do I get my business featured in the SPOTLIGHT section?

LGBT / JAX runs three to four business, and one non-profit, SPOTLIGHTS each month. Non-profits can nominate themselves for a free SPOTLIGHT feature. Businesses can get in the SPOTLIGHT for a fee of $130. The SPOTLIGHT feature runs for thirty consecutive days and features a photo. You can write your own article or we can write it for you. Submissions should be limited to 450 to 500 words. 501(c) Non-profits should click here to get started. Businesses should click here to get started.
